Dear Colleagues and Esteemed Guests

As co chair of the scientific committee, I would like to welcome you to this year’s annual convention, “Onwards to a Hundred Years Old: Aging and Orthopedics".
We are in an era of improved health. Improvements in health care, fitness and diet have all contributed to increased life expectancy. The average life span is now in the 70’s for Filipinos compared to decades ago when it was much less.
However, with an increased life span, we are also seeing a changing trend in common diseases. It had been predicted that degenerative illnesses will come to be a leading cause of disease. Our specialization is already encountering more and more of these illnesses and the challenge is to keep in step or ahead in diagnosis, treatment and management.

This year’s convention marks a new format wherein subspecialties are grouped in sharing their insights and management to an aging population. We enjoin all to make the most of this special congress as it gives a different point of view from the perspective of a health provider and perhaps a future patient.

Sincerely yours
JOHN ANDREW MICHAEL A. BENGZON, MD, FPOA
